A bookplate is a label glued inside the front cover that says who owns the book. Each free sheet holds six plates of about 3.75 by 2.85 inches, each with its own design: a row of stars, a leafy vine, a shelf of books, a scroll, a moon with stars and an open book. Print the color sheet, or the outline sheet for children to color.

A bookplate is a small label placed inside a book to show who owns it. Most bookplates carry the words Ex Libris, a picture and a line for a name. The plates on this page add the words This book belongs to, so even young readers can claim their books.
Ex Libris is Latin for from the books of. Every plate on these sheets carries the words Ex Libris, then This book belongs to, then a line for the owner's name. On the coloring sheet the Ex Libris letters are outlined too, so children can color them along with the picture.
The usual spot for a bookplate is inside the front cover. Set it near the top or center of the inside board, square to the edges, and press it flat for a minute. A glue stick or acid-free glue works on plain paper and thin cardstock, and sticker paper needs no glue at all.
Each sheet has six designs: a row of stars, a leafy vine, a shelf of books, a scroll flourish, a moon with stars, and an open book. The color sheet uses muted slate, olive and claret on a light paper tint. The coloring sheet shows the same six designs as black outlines.
Use the sheet as a bookplate template for a class library. Write the teacher's name or the class name on the line and put one plate in each book. The coloring version also makes a good first-day activity: each child colors a plate and claims a book.
A bookplate can be a sticker or a paper label you glue in. Print these sheets on sticker paper for peel-and-press plates, or on plain paper or thin cardstock and use a glue stick.
Most people put a bookplate inside the front cover of the book. Center it on the inside board and press it flat for a minute.
Write the owner's name on the line, then cut the plate out along the marks. Stick or glue it inside the cover. Children can color the outline version first and then sign it.
Coloring the plates before signing them is a fun idea for children. Teachers can put the class name on a set for a classroom library, and a book given as a gift can carry a plate with the reader's name.
Full-sheet sticker paper is the easiest choice: cut along the marks and press them in. On plain paper or thin cardstock, use a glue stick or acid-free glue and press the plate flat for a minute.
Each bookplate is about 3.75 by 2.85 inches (9.5 by 7.2 cm), six to a sheet. Print at 100% or actual size, or the cut marks will not line up.
The color sheet has a light paper tint behind each plate. To save ink, print the coloring version instead, or set your printer to draft.
Teachers can write their own name or the class name on the line and put one in each book. The coloring version works well as a first-day activity.
